Bella is a female, 50 lb., 4 year old black lab mix (who is on the smaller side). This is a very beautiful and gentle soul who has had a rough start to her life, (see below) so she is very slowly learning to trust people. Despite this history she is totally kind and gentle-when she takes a treat from your hand, she has the softest touch. With her lovely honey brown eyes, she is happy to hang out in the house, watching what the humans are up to.

Bella doesn’t need a lot of exercise and is so silent you can barely hear her walking around the house. She is good on the leash – she is wary of outside sounds and smells, and sometimes pulls to go back in the house where she knows it’s safe. She is good with other dogs and with cats, and is house and crate trained.

Bella’s story: Sweet Bella was dumped outside and some kids came along and beat her with 2 x 4’s. She was so afraid, that for two years no one could catch her, yet sometimes she would go into people’s yards with her multiple puppies almost as though she wanted them to help. A couple of experienced and kind southern folks stepped in and were able to trap her; when she first came to NY she ran away from her foster home and it took 2 months to find and trap her again. Now, she has been in foster for about 2 months and is very slowly learning to trust people. This will be an ongoing and slow, but very rewarding process, so it is time that she move to a forever home to settle in.

If you have a giant heart and a tub fool of gentleness and patience, Bella will really respond to your efforts and forever appreciate them.
