If you are applying for McCallen, please indicate on your application that you have read and understand his specific needs.
McCallen, often called “Little Buddy” or “Buddy Boy” by his foster family, is a real gem! With the most striking eyes, this guy is full of personality. He is enthusiastic and funny as he dances around excitedly at hearing the voices of his humans. He looks into your eyes with his soulful gaze and cocks his head to listen. Likewise, he loves playing with his siblings, and when he sees the other dogs in his foster home, his tail starts wagging and he gets so excited and happy. He always greets them with the sweetest kisses! This agile boy would love to find a home with a canine buddy.
McCallen bounces around carrying big toys and launches joyfully into his bed and onto the couch with them. He will even climb into his toy box to find the one he wants! This silly guy is hilarious to watch as he jumps in and out of the baby pool and barks and play bows at the spray coming from the hose. McCallen loves standing between his foster parents’ feet and mouthing with his canine buddies from his protected spot. A very loyal boy, he likes being near his people and crashing for a nap at their feet, in their laps, or next to them on the couch. McCallen is the most delicious snuggler and has infinite amounts of love for his humans. Sometimes he will just come to his people and ask to be picked up for a quick cuddle before resuming his play. He will easily become the center of your world! McCallen is housetrained, knows basic commands, and sleeps through the night like an angel.
McCallen has Megaesophagus, (where his esophagus does not properly carry food to the stomach) that is currently being well managed on medication, which he happily sits and waits for when it’s medication time; he will likely need medical management for life. However, one should not mistake this malfunction for lack of normal behavior, for this guy truly lives life to the fullest.
McCallen is one of McKenna’s MC’s Lab mix and was born on 01/06/20 and raised in foster care, so he is very well socialized with people and other dogs. We anticipate McCallen will be between 40-60 lbs when fully grown.
This boy is in the developmental stage of exploring the world with his mouth and will also be teething with sharp teeth for quite some time to come. Please do not apply if you have children under age 8 or, if they are older, who will not be able to tolerate this.
