If you are applying for McCallen, please indicate on your application that you have read and understand his specific needs.
McCallen, (called “Little Buddy” or “Buddy Boy” by his foster family) is a 34 lb. German Shepherd/Chihuahua mix gem born on 01/06/20. With the most striking eyes, this guy is full of personality. He is enthusiastic and funny as he dances around excitedly at hearing the voices of his humans. He looks into your eyes with his soulful gaze and cocks his head to listen. McCallen’s dopey, airplane ears have not yet decided whether to be up or down and are positioned slightly differently everyday; this only adds to his charm! He loves playing with his siblings, and when he sees the other dogs in his foster home, his tail starts wagging and he gets so excited and happy. He always greets them with the sweetest kisses and will cuddle up with them for a nap as well! This agile boy would love to find a home with a canine buddy.
McCallen bounces around carrying big toys and launches joyfully into his bed and onto the couch with them. He will even climb into his toy box to find the one he wants! This silly guy is hilarious to watch as he jumps in and out of the baby pool and barks and play bows at the spray coming from the hose. He likes to sit on the steps of his foster family’s pool while he excitedly waits for his canine buddies to swim over. McCallen loves standing between his foster parents’ feet and mouthing with his canine buddies from his protected spot. A very loyal boy, he likes being near his people and crashing for a nap at their feet, in their laps, or next to them on the couch. McCallen is the most delicious snuggler and has infinite amounts of love for his family of humans. Sometimes he will just come to his people and ask to be picked up for a quick cuddle before resuming his play. With strangers and new things, McCallen is much more cautious and needs slow acclimation, so he would prefer a home with children over 8 years old. This guy will easily become the center of your world! McCallen is housetrained, knows basic commands, and sleeps through the night like an angel. He is intelligent, eager to please, and a quick learner.
McCallen has Megaesophagus, (where his esophagus does not properly carry food to the stomach) that is currently being well managed on medication, which he happily sits and waits for when it’s medication time; he will likely need this for life. However, one should not mistake this malfunction for lack of normal behavior, for this guy truly lives life to the fullest.
