After being trapped by animal control in rural South Carolina, the petrified McKenna was brought to New York by A New Chance Animal Rescue. We sadly discovered that this poor girl was pregnant at only 8 months old.
McKenna had a challenging and tragic 12 hour delivery. Quickly, it dawned upon her experienced and wisefoster mother that she was not producing enough milk and had retained uterine fluid. Despite the heroic efforts of her foster mom, it was determined that McKenna needed emergency surgery. McKenna could no longer care for her puppies, and her foster mother bottle fed all of the puppies and continued to do so until they transitioned to lapping formula.
Even though McKenna is now in a loving home with a wonderful foster mother, three of her puppies still suffer from a congenital disorder called megaesophagus. The treatment of this disorder requires daily doses of both liquid and pill form medications, lovingly provided by these puppies’ foster mother.
