Quincy, a handsome Golden Retriever mix puppy, came to us at 5 weeks old in pretty bad shape with his mother, two siblings, and a pregnant aunt in tow. When he entered the shelter, it was immediately clear that he had sustained an injury to his abdomen, the severity of which was not known until he was rushed to our vet upon leaving the shelter the next day.
We stepped up to take him, knowing we would be able to rush him to our vet immediately, while other rescues might leave him for a few days while they made arrangements; those few days could have been the difference between life and death for him.
Quincy underwent emergency surgery to fix a herniated abdomen and stop severe internal bleeding. We do not know for sure how he was injured, but our vet suspected that someone stepped on him or kicked him. His mother was extremely emaciated and fearful, and we can only imagine the horrors they endured before getting their new chance.
Quincy recovered remarkably well and now happily resides in Bedford with three loving kids and a canine buddy he can play endlessly with!
